The Holy Name Society promotes the reverence of the Holy Name of Jesus. The society assists the parish by doing Corporal Works of Mercy. The essential obligation of a member can be summarized in the first petition of the Our Father: "Hallowed Be Thy Name."

History
On October 28, 1945, Father Constantine C. "Connie" Superfisky, at Bishop John King Mussio's request, organized the Holy Name Society for the Diocese of Steubenville and established it in his own parish, St. Joseph.
The organization began an active part in all deanery affairs: the Holy Name rallies, the deanery field Masses and picnics, the deanery banquets, and communion breakfasts.
During its years of existence at St. Joseph's, the Holy Name Society has provided social, financial, and spiritual support to the pastors and the parishioners.
Through annual fundraisers, the society has helped the parish purchase a new ambo, Nativity statues, Baptismal font, church hall chairs, altar server albs, and more. The Holy Name Society has also helped the parish pay assessments with St. Mary Central School, Martins Ferry.
The society is also responsible for the parish's outdoor Nativity scene.
St. Joseph Holy Name Society is the only active Holy Name Society left in the Diocese of Steubenville.
